1. My piece makes sense. It has a beginning, middle and end.
2. Each sentence is complete. (I have checked for nouns and verbs, and have added adjectives if I needed more description.)
3. I have checked and corrected all of my spelling.
4. I have checked to make sure that there is punctuation at the end of each sentence. (Periods, question marks, exclamation points)
5. I have started each sentence, proper name, place and date with a capital letter. I have looked at the capital letter rule chart and made sure I followed all guidelines.
6. I have made sure that I have broken down my writing into paragraphs.
7. I have put apostrophes when using contractions.
(Example: is + not = isn't)
8. If I have used possessives, I have included apostrophes. (Example: The book belongs to Mary. It is Mary's favorite title.)
9. When I made a word ending in "y" into a plural, I dropped the "y" and added, "ies". (Example: 1 family, 2 families)
10. I don't have capitals in the middle of sentences where they don't belong.
11. If I have made characters or people talk within my piece, I have put quotation marks around the things that I have them say, and, I have made sure that punctuation is inside the quotation marks. (Example: "Hi," said Tom, how are you?" )
12. I have used commas to break up words in a list or series.
(Example: Apples, oranges, pears and grapes are delicious.)
