ALTERNATIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Pupils in grades 10 through 12 may apply to participate in out-of-school activities provided they are approved by the physical education staff and administration and are comparable in time and meet the physical education course requirements.  Since new state regulations require students to be competent and proficient in a number of different sport categories, students cannot be granted approved for the same activity more than one semester.

APPROVAL PROCEDURE:  All students must report to regular physical education class at the start of the semester.  Students interested in an alternative placement must pick up an application from their physical education teacher during the first week of class.  The signed application is due back to school by the second week of class.  If the activity is approved, the student must then demonstrate acceptable levels of physical fitness and knowledge of physical education activities by completing the fitness test (performing in the healthy zone in all areas), and passing a written knowledge test.
