Wow! There are so many clubs this year at Guggenheim - a total of 17 clubs! In this article are descriptions of some of the clubs, including the name of the club, the day they meet for the club, the person who runs the club, and the grade the students have to be in to be in the club.
Mrs. Grennan runs the Book Club for first graders. They meet on Wednesdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. Mrs. Grennan reads the first graders a book and lets them do a craft or project about the book. Example: puppet masks, picture frames, or tissue paper collages.
Mrs. Illiano runs Art Club for fourth and fifth graders. They meet on Thursdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. At their meetings they paint on canvas in acrylic and oil pastels, learn about shading with light and color, and develop increased skills in painting.
Mrs. ODonnell runs the Kindergarten Book Club. They meet on Thursdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. At their meetings they have a snack, then Mrs. ODonnell reads a book to the kindergartners. After the book, they do an arts and crafts activity, then talk about the book.
Mr. Makover runs Recreation on Tuesdays at 3:00-4:15 PM, Intramurals on Monday to Friday at fourth graders recess, and Dance Club on Fridays at 3:00-4:15 PM. Recreation is for fifth graders. At Recreation, they do competitive sports. Third, fourth, and fifth graders meet for Dance. At their meetings, they do contemporary dance and modern jazz. Fourth graders meet for Intermurals at their recess. They do sports and games.
Mrs. Olsen runs the Garden club for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. They meet on Tuesday at 3:00-4:15 PM. At their meetings they learn about plants and gardens. Then, they do plant experiments. To end their meeting, they garden in the courtyards and around the school.
Mrs. Mayer runs GuggenTimes on Thursdays at 7:30 AM, and GuggenWeb on Tuesdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. On Tuesdays for their meetings they design and update the school web site. They also do the web version of the school newspaper- GuggenTimes. You're reading their work right now! On Thursdays at GuggenTimes they create, write, and produce the school newspaper.
Ms. Ross and Mrs. Betsch run Science Club on Thursdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. At their meetings they learn about the science process and concepts by creating hands-on projects and observing how science is all around us. They also discuss scientific theory.
Mrs. Wasserman runs the Second Grade Book Club on Tuesdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. At their meetings, they read a story. Then, they discuss the book and make crafts.
Mrs. Mulqueen and Mrs. Hart run Homework Club. They each run it separately, but they both run it on Wednesdays at 3:00-4:15 PM. At Mrs. Mulqueens Homework Club, they discuss organizational skills and their importance in dealing with homework assignments. The students also do their homework and ask for assistance when needed. At Mrs. Harts Homework Club, she helps the children in third through fifth grade with their homework. She tries to teach them strategies and organizational skills that will help them with their work.
Other clubs are: After school Computer Program on Mondays with Mrs. Tiberia for 3th, 4th,and 5th graders; Computer Club on Wednesdays with Mrs. Tiberia for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders; Chess Club on Thursdays with Mr. Conti for Kindergarten to 5th grade; Computer Club on Thursdays with Mrs. Tiberia for 4th and 5th graders; and Craft Club on Wednesdays with Ms. Ross and Mrs. Rafferty for 4th and 5th graders.
There are many clubs that many kids can have fun in. Join one or two or three!
