ITALIAN I
Term: Full Year If you have not studied Italian before or if you wish to add a second foreign language sequence to your program, this beginning course concentrates on the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. |

Term: Full Year This course is a continuation of Italian I giving the opportunity to practice and improve skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. | |
| ITALIAN III Regents
Term: Full Year Students in this course will build further upon the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills acquired in the first two levels in order to be able to read Italian, write short compositions, comprehend spoken Italian designed for the level of comprehension and speak with some fluency. Students taking the course will be prepared to take the required Regents examination in June. An Honors project is a possibility with teacher recommendation and teacher-student contract signed in September. | |
| ITALIAN IV
Term: Full Year Students will further develop their spoken language through diverse activities such as day to day situations, short stories, poems, plays. Films will be used for conversation themes, writing skills and also to gain an appreciation of Italian cinema and other cultural facts. All four skills will be emphasized through these diverse activities as well as a good insight and appreciation to Italian culture. Grammar points will also continue to be reinforced during the different activities. (Honors designation is available.) | |
| EXTENDED ITALIAN I A, I B
Term: Full Year This course is a beginning language courses concentrating on listening and speaking with secondary emphasis on reading and writing. A total communicative approach will be applied. Students will be monitored intensely throughout the two courses. These courses are extended for students who would not normally be placed in a level I class or who need more attention with the basics. After having completed level I B the student will be prepared to go on to level II. In this sequence a Regents is a possibility. After completing I A and I B the student will receive one unit of H.S. credit. | |
ADVANCED ITALIAN LANGUAGE (NEW) Pending Board Approval Term: Full Year - Open to all students Prerequisite: Italian 3R Basic topics for surviving in Europe - greetings, directions, transportantion, hotels, meals, shopping (visits to doctor?) - will be learned in Italian, French, German, and Spanish. Currency exchange and customs information will be included. Films will be shown about the countries in which the above languages are spoken. In the last quarter, all four languages will be reviewed. The emphasis is on speaking and listening. No prior knowledge of a foreign language is necessary. |
