All About Iditarod 2003

The second grade students at John J. Daly have embarked on a study of Alaska and the "Last Great Race on Earth" also known as the Iditarod Race. We have been learning about the people, animals and places of Alaska, the history of the Iditarod and are following the events of the Iditarod 2003. This study has included literature, videos, art projects, science projects, creative writing, and current events. We have spent time learning about the Siberian huskies, the trail, the supplies needed to race, and the mushers who will be participating in Iditarod 2003.

Each class has created a wall map of Alaska with the 2003 Iditarod trsil. On each map, you will find all the checkpoints labeled. This will be used when the race begins and each class will follow the progress of the mushers. Each of our second grade classes will be selecting two mushers to follow in the race. We will track the progress over the course of the race. The students are looking forward to the beginning of the race in early March.
