Take Five
Back
Only named after the greatest jazz standard of all time, "Take Five"
is the sole jazz show on WDOT. Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane,
Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald – if you've never heard
of these artists, it's time to listen in and find out where your favorite
rock and pop music originated from. These are the most talented musicians
you've never heard, and "Take Five" is the only WDOT show that plays
them all (or any of them, for that matter). But better than just hearing
the music, DJ Mara Hollander provides detailed background on all of
the artists featured on the show, which is considerably more interesting
than you'd ever believe – those self-destructive rock musicians had
to get their inspiration from somewhere, after all.
"Take Five" is on the air every third "B" or "E" day at 7:30 in the
morning, but you can listen for replays later in the day.
