ELEMENTARY (K-5)

School Wide Enrichment
The Enrichment Teacher collaborates with the classroom teacher in planning units for all students in grades K- 5. The units of study which are  facilitated by the PEP teacher go beyond the normal curriculum providing challenging materials and ideas that further enrich students' academic experience.

Challenge Workshops
Every student in grades 3 and 4 has the opportunity to participate in a PEP Challenge Workshop which are offered during their recess. PEP Challenge Workshops are engaging and are designed to reflect the diversity of student learning styles and interests.

Core Group
The Core Group component of the PEP program offers instruction to qualifying 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. These students are identified using standardized test scores, teacher appraisals, and individualized I.Q. testing. Core Group students meet with the PEP teacher, in a pull-out format, for a total of two and one-half hours per week.

Math Olympiad
All fourth and fifth year students have the opportunity to participate in the Math Olympiad which is a world wide mathematics competition. Students are challenged with non-routine, multi-step mathematical problems. Five monthly Olympiads are administered (November-March). Pre- and post-strategy sessions are held.

Staff Development
The PEP teacher consults with all teachers in the building by request. Curriculum and resource materials are provided to help teachers, in all areas, better meet the individual needs of their students. A variety of enrichment and resource materials are available in the PEP room to help teachers differentiate instruction in their classrooms. This relationship between the PEP teacher and other faculty members helps to enhance and enrich the overall instructional program at the elementary school level.

WEBER MIDDLE SCHOOL (6-8)

Core Curriculum

The PEP Core curriculum at Weber Middle School is designed to meet the academic needs of the gifted population in Port Washington.  Course work is based on New York State Standards as well as the diverse interests of the students.  Student input is greatly encouraged.

By incorporating mathematics, science and technology in addition to the standard curriculum, our goal is to expand horizons and create unique opportunities.

Challenge Workshops

PEP Challenge Workshops offer the entire population of Weber Middle School the opportunity to participate in mind stretching activities during the school day.  Challenge Workshops are designed to enrich children's educational experience by delving into topics that are outside of the standard curriculum. Math Olympiads are permanent workshop offering.
